Filling up my card stash with some card types I never seem to have enough of - birthday and feel better. With the cold and flu season making its way through friends and family, I need a few simple cards I can send to cheer people up.

A cup of warmth

One of my dear friends is down with the flu, so I thought I'd send a little cheer-me-up card with a cute teacup sticker and some well-wishes. I kept it really simple and flat so it's quick to mail and (hopefully) even quicker to reach her and make her smile.

Nurse Anya

Being sick is never fun, and it's even worse when it leaves you completely exhausted. I've had so many idea sparks this week for a card (or 20), but just lacked even an ounce of energy to make them.

So, I'm sharing this card.. which has been sitting in my "to post" folder for a while now.

I'm hoping to be back to being creative very soon.

PS - Healthy Vibes

  It's been a while since I've used a Paper Smooches stamp. And it's not because I've suddenly developed a dislike for them. I think they're just as adorable and as quirky as ever. But for some reason, I kept feeling drawn to other stamps over the past few months.

I had a friend who fell ill recently, and I wanted to make a card for her. So, I pulled out my teeny (compared to other stamps, anyway) collection of get-well stamps and found Paper Smooches' First Aid Kit stamp.  I thought it would be perfect for a cheery get-well card.

I stamped and colored the ambulance with my Copics, using the classic white and red palette. I liked the combination of white and red, so I thought I'd echo it in the rest of the card. I used the Borders 1 die to cut a white stitched rectangle, and put some dimension in the card with foam squares.

The rest of the card is really simple. I used a light blue paper to create a border, so the front panel wouldn't blend in with the card base. And I scattered a few enamel dots for fun.

Since the challenge for PS - Sparks this week is Anything Goes, I'm going to go ahead and enter there.

Get Well Flower

I've got another get-well card for today. It's a very simple little card, but happy enough to cheer up the person who's feeling sick.

I started by die-cutting the delicate flowers from Simon Says Stamp's Fresh Daisies die out of white cardstock. I used a couple of Copics to add a touch of color to it. While I had my Bigshot out, I die-cut a scalloped rectangle out of some yellow striped paper.

I wanted the sentiment to be subtle, so I cut a strip of vellum. I stamped the sentiment from Clearly Besotted's Sweet Little Sentiments in Versamark ink. I embossed it in white with the Hero Arts white embossing powder.

I attached the vellum to the front panel with a combination of adhesive and a simple brad. I then adhered the flower with Tombow liquid glue. I added the card to a light gray card base with foam tape.

As a last touch, I adhered a few gold sequins from Simon's Sparkle and Shine mix.

Flickr Challenge: Feel Better

Today's card was created for the new Simon Says Stamp and Lawn Fawn Flickr co-challenge. The theme is Kraft, and since I'm a big fan of Kraft, I knew I just had to enter. So, I grabbed my Lawn Fawn and Simon goodies and got creative.

I started by creating my card base by cutting and folding a piece of Khaki cardstock into a standard A2 card (4¼ by 5½"). Then I pulled out my Bigshot and die-cut my front panel out of Kraft cardstock, using a stitched rectangle. While I had my Bigshot out, I also die-cut the scalloped rectangle from Lawn Fawn's Hello Sunshine petite paper. I used the banner die from Stitched Journaling Card to cut a couple of banners.

I stamped the bird nurse from Lawn Fawn's Get Well Soon in the bottom left corner of the panel with Dark Chocolate ink. I masked her off, then stamped the little prescription bottle. I used my Prismacolor pencils to color the two images and scribbled a quick ground/shadow underneath them.

For the sentiment, I used Simon Says Stamp's More Sketchy Banner Greetings stamp set. I stamped it in the same chocolate ink.

I adhered the scalloped rectangle to the card base, then added the kraft panel with foam tape. I adhered the two banners just under the sentiment. As a last touch, I added a light gray enamel dot.

Lawn Fawn - Get Well

I have been meaning to photograph and write about this card for a while. It feels like I created it ages ago, and it's just been sitting on display in my craft closet. I'm not really sure why I haven't written about it yet. Maybe I just got excited about other cards I've made after? Well, I decided I better post this before I've sent it away to someone.

This card started with Lawn Fawn's Get Well Soon stamp set and coordinating dies. I stamped out the nurse bird, bandaid and pill bottle in MFT's black licorice hybrid ink and colored them in with Copics. I then cut them out with the coordinating dies. While I had my Bigshot out, I also cut out a flag banner from Stitched Journaling die. I stamped "get well" from the stamp set on the banner.

I prepared the card base by cutting and scoring a sheet of Neenah Desert Storm environmental cardstock in half to create a standard top-folding card. I then used the bandaid and MFT kraft ink to create a custom tone-on-tone background.

I used Lawn Fawn's Stitched Scalloped Borders die to cut two borders from Let's Polka petite patterned paper. I also cut out a thin strip of the blue paper and a thicker strip of the striped gray paper, as well as a plain white cardstock rectangle. I adhered the layers together and added them to the card base.

I created the window trio by cutting the striped gray strip into 3 equal squares, then cutting 3 smaller squares from white cardstock and layering them together. I adhered the stamped images and the sentiment banner with foam squares.

As a last touch, I tied a piece of white ribbon to the bottom of the card.

Warm Wishes

One of my friends came down with a really nasty bout of flu, and I wanted to make a get-well card to cheer her up. But after reaching into my stamp bin, I realized I don't have any get-well sets. I did, however, recently buy Mama Elephant's Cup of Wishes stamp set and I've just been itching to use it.

The stamp set comes with several small stamps that can be used to create patterns and shapes to really make the cup stand out. I chose something relatively simple (scallop edge and a dot), but there are many possible ways do dress up the cup.

The card itself is relatively simple, but it was a challenge to make it look right. I don't know if it's just the stamp itself, or if I've been stamping it wrong, but it took several tries to get the "Warm" part of the image to stamp correctly. I used both a general acrylic block and my Fiskars stamping press, but the ar in Warm just would not stamp. It finally stamped on the 3rd try, though it did not stamp as cleanly as I wanted it to. All that extra pressure made some edges look fuzzy.

The rest of the card went pretty smoothly. I like how the colors on the cup turned out. I used 2 different watercolor pencils to create some dimension, and I think it turned out nice. I may have to pick up a larger set of pencils just to have more color variety.
