WFC2104W1 - Waffle Flower Challenge: Pastels

 

Today, I am thrilled to share a special card for a challenge with Waffle Flower Crafts. I was fortunate enough to take part in this challenge as a guest designer, and had an absolute blast creating my card.

The theme for the challenge is pastels - which is just perfect for me. I often use pastel colors and I love how they make any project feel dreamy and magical. For my card, I was inspired by the beginnings of spring all around me, so I decided to make a magical fairy card.

A little ink blending with white splatters and a spray of flowers and leaves pairs perfectly with two lovely fairies. I am so happy with how it turned out and please do expect to see me play with this fun stamp set a lot more in the future.

Thinking of You, Spring

 

My favorite season is autumn. I love the cool weather, the rain and the changing leaves. In contrast, my least favorite season would probably be spring. Though similar to autumn, spring comes with seasonal allergies that make me miserable.

I recently watched a short indie movie about the different seasons. One of the things that stuck with me is how we're intrinsically tied to the seasons, on a spiritual level. If we celebrate each season as it unfolds, we feel closer to nature and life feels more simple. As I've actively worked on living and enjoying a simple and slow life, the idea of celebrating seasons really resonated with me.

This spring, I will try to celebrate the season instead of complaining about allergies. I will look to new growth and new possibilities of seeing my creativity through a fresh perspective. I'm excited to see new things I can try and master with a different outlook.

Missing You

Following winter is another spring card. I think I'm getting more comfortable with using flower stamps.

Rainy Day

I'm not much of a fan of spring (the pollen makes me miserable every year), but I do like spring scenes on cards. There's something so fun and cheerful about bright colors that never fails to elevate my mood. So, I thought I'd make a fun little rainy scene with Hello Bluebird stamps and some inkblending over a stencil.

I especially enjoyed blending with Stormy Sky distress ink. Even though it's a more de-saturated color, I really love the tone and I'm definitely using it again soon.

Hello Spring!

Happy Spring everyone! Since it's now officially spring in my corner of the world, I thought I would make a spring-inspired card.

I used the sweet bunny from Mama Elephant and some strips of patterned paper from my scraps stash. I should really find more ideas to use my scraps stash like this. I really like how this card turned out!

Spring Hooray

I don't like spring (too much sneezing from seasonal allergies), but I do enjoy spring-themed crafting. There's something so fun about sweet pastel colors and cuddly critters just waiting to be popped on a card or two.

For this card, I paired a small Lawn Fawn sentiment with a chick from Doodlebug. I think they match together just great.

OHC 51 - Spring

Today's card is a bit different because it's a spring card, and we're well into summer. But, I drew the OHC theme 51 (Spring) and that's what I had to create. For my card, I chose to use the fabulous Birdie Brown's set Somebunny.  This sweet set features some of the cutest bunnies in a variety of poses and sweet sentiments to match.

I started by cutting a tag shape out of Kraft cardstock, using the Stitched Duo 1 dies. I also die-cut a piece of orange patterned paper (from a Lawn Fawn paper pad that's now retired) and used a stitched scallop die to cut it to size.

I stamped the cute bunny and the flower cart onto some marker paper with brown hybrid ink and colored everything in with Copics. I carefully cut out the images, leaving a small white border. I adhered the patterned paper and the bunny to the tag shape, then tied an orange chevron ribbon around the top.

I matted a piece of mint polka dot patterned paper to a kraft panel and adhered them to a standard white top-folding A2 card base (4¼x5½"). I added the tag with foam squares. I wanted a subtle sentiment, so I found a small sticker in my stash that had a minty green color, and I added it to the card.

As a last touch, I adhered a few enamel dots to the tag.

Happy Spring!

 Today's card is simple, yet colorful and fun at the same time. It features an adorable new stamp set from Simon Says Stamp's Hop To It release, as well as some simple Copic coloring.

I started by stamping out the girl, the bear and the flower from Abby's Spring Showers stamp set onto some marker paper. I colored them in with my Copics, keeping the coloring very simple. I then carefully cut around them and set them aside.

I created a top-folding A2 card base (4¼ by 5½") from some light gray cardstock. I then grabbed my Bigshot and die-cut a large circle of cute patterned paper. I then lined up the curved A2 edge die at the bottom and ran it through my Bigshot again. This created a horizon of sorts for my scene.

I adhered the patterned paper straight onto the card. I stamped the sentiment at the bottom in black ink. I arranged the colored images and adhered them to the card. Then, I stamped two small hearts in pink ink.

The card was missing something, so I hand-drew a dotted border under the sentiment and added two enamel dots.

Since this card fits the Work It Wednesday theme (spring), I will be entering the challenge.

Tiddly Inks - Spring

Tiddly Inks challenge blog currently has a spring-themed challenge, and I thought I'd enter. I've got a growing collection of Tiddly Inks stamps, and I wanted to create something fun and pretty with them.

I chose to go with Fairy Tenderhearted, as she just looks like a personification of spring: time for growth and caring. I stamped her in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored the image in with my Copics.

I cut the stamped image into a circle using the Sizzix circle dies. Then, I cut a scalloped circle from Bazzill's Tahitian Princess cardstock. This cardstock is fantastic because it comes already embossed, so it added a great texture to the card.

For the paper, I chose a flowered pattern paper that had both pink and aqua hues. I glued it to the cardstock, then added the stamped image and a strip of cardstock on the bottom for the sentiment.I stamped the word "Spring" on a piece of vellum cardstock and embossed it with Liquid Platinum embossing powder.

The last touch was a pink polkadot button, glued to the velum.

Watercolor- Hello

Today actually felt like spring! The temperature got all the way up to 60 degrees - which is phenomenal considering we had a snow blizzard just a couple of days ago. Sadly, it looks like we'll be getting a bit more snow on Tuesday, but spring is still on the horizon.

And what better way to celebrate spring than with some adorable Lawn Fawn critters?

I pulled out the gorgeous set of watercolor pencils I got for my birthday and got to work creating a background. I kept it fairly simple, focusing on a few trees and the grass. I smooshed a few colors together for the sky background, adding some pink and purple to blue. I didn't want to go too dark with the sky, since I wanted the trees and grass to stand out.

The animals were colored with Copics, then glued to the scene. I added dots of white gel pen to the bird and the deer for a bit more texture.

Lastly, I stamped the greeting from Hello Sunshine stamp set and doodled in a small flower/plant for the far right bunny.

Mint Baby

This card... Oh, this card almost did not happen because this card was remade 4 times, and it's at least 90% different from my initial concept sketch. From coloring woes to glue issues to things being off-center, it was just not coming together. So, I took a step back and made something completely different. And I like it!

This card was inspired by Shari Carroll's new feature on the SSS blog: Color Coordinates. She covered Mint in one of the blog posts, and it made me think just how perfect of a hue that was for a gender-neutral baby card. So, I pulled up the tiny ray of sunshine stamp and got to work.

I paired the cool mint color with a warm gray/light brown from the Project Life : Baby paper pad. The paper flower from Prima's Sun Kissed: Bloom collection was the perfect touch to tie in the polka dots of the background and the mint. Finally, I added a few pearls to the right of the sentiment and it just pulled everything together.

Hello Spring!

Despite the fact that we just had an ice storm today and some more snow coming as the week progresses, it really feels like spring is on the way. Every day, there's more and more birds chirping in our yard, and I even spied a bunny hopping across the yard today. I'm not looking forward to the allergies (and you will probably hear me complain about allergies as soon as the pollen count goes up), but I am eager to ditch the winter coat and enjoy some sunshine before the heat waves start to hit.

This card features a stamp by The Greeting Farm: Fleur Anya. I have several Anya stamps at the moment, and they're a fantastic way to practice coloring skin and hair. I wanted to really challenge myself this time, and I went with red hair. I'm pretty happy with the results, though I still feel like I need a lot more practice. So, expect more copic fun in the future!

Spring Fairy

This was a relatively quick card, but I think it turned out kind of pretty. It's my way of saying "Hurry up, Spring!" I'm probably going to complain incessantly about my allergies once spring is actually here, but I can't wait to see more than just piles and piles of (what's now rather dirty) snow.

I'm still working on getting used to my Copics and coloring/blending, so you will probably see lots of character cards coming from me. This little fairy is a really great stamp set by Some Odd Girl, and I was lucky enough to win it in one of their giveaways.
