Lucy and Sprout Card

Under the Sea Mae is one of the Some Odd Girls sets I bought last month. It's probably one of my favorite sets, but I wanted to get a little more comfortable with Copics before attempting to use it.

So, here's my attempt. I think it turned out okay, overall. I love the orange/blue/green color combination, and I tried to do some texture coloring to emulate scales. I also love the amount of dimension I got with shading on Sprout (what I named the seahorse).I still need to practice coloring hair. I think that one is probably the toughest one to master - or maybe I just need to use different color combinations.

I decided to keep the rest of the card pretty simple. Some patterned paper from Fancy Pants and a couple of sequins add an extra touch of color. The panel under Lucy (what I named the mermaid) looked too bright when it was pure white, so I used some distress inks to age it.

The last step was using some pearls. They kind of look like bubbles, don't they?

Supplies:
Stamp - Under the Sea Mae by Some Odd Girl
Base - Bazzill Java Orange Peel Card stock
Paper - Fancy Pants Down By The Shore 6x6; Neenah Solar White 80lbs (for panel under the mermaid)
Ink - Ranger Distress Ink in Antique Linen, and in Vintage Photo
Sequins - Lawn Fawn Into The Woods lawn trimmings
Pearls - Melissa Frances Cream Pearls

  1. AMAZING, Elle! This is totally GORGEOUS!! I cannot believe you are a beginner with copics. You just have a natural gift with them. The scales look great and so does the hair. And the pearls are the perfect finishing touch. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!!

    1. Thanks so much, Kylie! You're so sweet *hugs*. :D

I'm discovering that Copics are actually very forgiving. One of the things I was worried about was those awkward streaks you get when you use markers like Crayola markers, but the coloring's been really smooth. I also bought a blending paper pad, which makes things so easy to blend. I'm just having a blast coloring things. :)
