OHC 86 - Butterfly

Another Monday is upon us, and it's time for some color. This week, I'm sharing a color combo I have just a bit obsessed with lately -- peachy/coral, gray and mint. I'm finding myself really drawn to that combination, and (luckily) there are many new paper pads, cardstock and embellishments in these colors to choose from.

This card came about as I was working on an entry for my One Hundred Cards challenge (read about it here). I had pulled the theme "butterfly", and I decided to use the Butterflies stamp from Simon Says Stamp, as well as the coordinating dies.

I tried another new thing with this card - adding some washi tape. I picked up a pack of Sunset washi tape in my last order, and I was determined to use it. This helped shape up my card design as something with layered elements and shapes.

Thank you for reading!

  1. Elle, that really is a lovely combination. I love your use of the stamps and the dies. So different. You have such talent. The washi tape is a great touch as well. I have washi but not great colours and I rarely use it but you make me want to try. Thanks!

    1. Be brave, Kylie! Use that washi! :D

In all seriousness, I really don't generally reach for washi, either. I have a few colors and patterns, a lot of which are from card kits or goodie bags I won. But I do like seeing them on cards. I come across these fabulous cards now and then that are lovely and make using washi look so easy. I just can't seem to make it work the way they do.

I'm challenging myself to use all of my supplies, though, so washi's on that list too. I'm so happy it turned out well. :D

  2. What a great design layout! Love that you used the punched butterflies negative sheet. So very neat! And love the touches of the washi tapes.

    1. Thank you so much, Ka! I've been really into experimenting with different things lately. I especially love playing with the negative space - it makes me look at my dies in a completely different light. And it makes the cards a bit unexpected too, I think.

I really like the washi here, too. I don't use it often, but I'm going to make an effort to do it more. I think I have a few really fun patterns that would work great for cards. :)
