Lawn Fawn - Float My Boat

Card #4 in my masculine cards series. This time, I went with a love card -- something you could give as a Valentine's or anniversary card.

I started by stamping the boat and the life preserver from Lawn Fawn's Float My Boat set in navy blue ink. I stamped a second boat in black because I wanted to color in the sails with my Copics. I die cut the boat and preserver and set them aside.

Then I got to work on the background. I found a couple of great papers in Fancy Pants' Nautical paper pad. For the sea, I used Paper Smooches' Borders 1 die to create waves. I cut 2 waves from the patterned paper and 2 waves from velum.

I used a distress ink applicator to darken the edges of the paper and of velum, then stuck them together with thin strips of glue. I made sure to leave the tops of waves glue-free so it adds a bit of dimension. Then, I adhered them to the sky and mounted the entire background on a piece of dark grey cardstock.

I paper-pieced the sails on the boat and added it to the card. I tucked the boat under one of the velum waves, adhering it only at the bottom.

For the sentiment, I stamped the Y and U on a piece of white cardstock and glued it to the card. I stamped "float my boat" under it in navy ink. Then, I added the life preserver, using a foam square.

As the last touch, I added 3 glittery gold enamel dots.

  1. Wow! Elle, this looks fantastic with the dimension of the waves! I spent ages just looking at them. Using the life preserver for the "O" was inspired. The colour scheme just works, too.

    1. Thanks so much, Kylie! I'm really happy with how it turned out. I've been wanting to do a nautical card in ages, and I finally got around to it. I'm definitely going to be making more of them soon. :)
